Allen Townsend, Head Chef

Our award-winning Head Chef Allen Townsend brings over 35 years of culinary experience to every service.

Allen joined Compass Group in 1990 and has represented various distinguished roles ever since, catering superb food for up to 150,000 people and managing up to 120 chefs at a time.

Throughout his career, he has worked in a selection of wild and wonderful venues including a five-star super ferry, cricket club, race courses plus many more exceptional and characteristic venues.

Alongside side his daily role as Head Chef, he is also a member of the Compass Group and the Craft Guild of Chefs Culinary teams, competing nationally and internationally.

Culinary Credentials

His key achievements to date involve being asked to run the north grandstand for the first ever Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in 2009. This consisted of running 20 kitchens over two floors, catering for 4,000 covers per day over the three-day event.

In 2017, Allen achieved a gold award in the prestigious Salon at the Restaurant show. As a hugely respected chef, he has also been invited to sit on the panel of judges at numerous industry competitions.

This wealth of experience has led Allen to the Head Chef role at Reading Football Club. He is responsible for leading a team of professionals in the delivery of award-winning match day hospitality and retail offerings, alongside outstanding Conference and Events business.

Catering for up to 25,000 on a match day is made easy due to Allen’s expertise in running large events and is also reflected in the magnificent offering shown to our corporate guests on non-match days.
